Alyssa has a twin sister named Amanda, who also played soccer for Messiah College, and a younger sister named Abigail. She plays as a goalkeeper for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), which is the highest division of women’s professional soccer in the United States, and the United States women’s national soccer team.

Early Life
Since her young age, Alyssa has been active in sports. Naeher attended Christian Heritage School. Alyssa was one of the best players in her school. Alyssa was a Parade All-American and two-time NSCAA Youth All-American. She was also a star basketball player by scoring 2,000 points during her career. Alyssa was a three-time All-State and three-time FAA All-Conference selection. Naeher attended Penn State University from 2006-2009. In 2007 she was named the Big 10 Defensive Player of the year since she was the first Team All-American in 2007 and 2008.
Career
Naeher was active in football since 2006. From 2006 to 2009, she played from her university club
Penn State Nittany Lions. In 2010 she got her big break from Boston Breakers when they selected Naeher from 11th overall Women’s Professional Soccer draft. Alyssa Naeher was the first goalkeeper selected in the 2010 WPS draft.
In 2011 Naeher transferred to German Bundesliga club Turbine Potsdam. In 2011/2012, she appeared in 24 matches across the season for Potsdam and won the season. She played for Potsdam from 2011-2013.
Naeher signed for Boston Breakers in May 2013 for the newly formed National Women’s Soccer League. In the 2014 National Women’s Soccer League season, she won the Goalkeeper of the Year award as she recorded a record of 106 saves in 24 games.
On 22 November 2015, she was transferred to Chicago Red stars. In the 2016 NWSL season in Chicago, she became May’s player as she only missed one goal in four games and posted three shutouts in that month. On 18 August 2018, Naeher earned her 100th NWSL cap in the drawn game of 2-2 against the Portland Thoms. NWSL Media Association named Naeher as the week’s player in week 6 of 2018, and the team of the month is June 2018.
International career
Alyssa Naeher started her national team journey back in 2004. She played in United States U-16 in 2004 and United States U-17 in 2005. She got a big break in her international career in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup when she got her first Golden Gloves as the best goalkeeper in the Tournament. Naeher played all the games in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup but only missed one goal against North Korea.
Naeher made her first appearance in the United States Women’s National Team on 18 December 2014. She played for full time and won the game by 0-7 against Argentina. In the 2015 world cup, was not in playing 11 and was kept as backup for Hope solo this year, the United States Women’s Soccer Team won the world cup.
In the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil, Naeher became the United States Women’s Soccer Team roster, but they did not win the game. Since then, Naeher became the number one goalkeeper of the United States Women’s Soccer Team by replacing Hope Solo.
In 2018 Naeher played four out of the five matches and earned four shutouts in the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship. The United States Women’s Soccer Team won their CONCACAF Championship with a 2–0 win over Canada.
2019 FIFA Women World Cup
Naeher played the 2019 World Cup, which is her second world cup in her carrier. Naeher recorded three consecutive shoutouts in the group stage as the U.S won 2–0 over Sweden, 13–0 over Thailand, and 3–0 over Chile. She made four save in the quarterfinals against France in the knockout round and won the game by 2-1 against the host country. In the semifinal against England, she made three big save and stopped Steph Houghton’s penalty kick in the 83rd minute. Which help the U.S to win the game by 2-1 against England. The United States Women’s Soccer Team won the 2019 FIFA Women’s world cup by defeating the Netherlands by 2-0.

Alyssa Naeher was featured in the EA Sports’ FIFA video game series in FIFA 16 and her national team, which was the first time in the FIFA game to feature women players.
After winning the 2015 world cup Naeher and her national teammates were honored with a Ticker tape parade in New York City. Each player received the key to the city from Mayor Bill de Blasio. President Barack Obama praised the team at the White House for winning the 2015 world cup.
