Wentworth Miller is known as Wentworth Earl Miller III. Miller is an American actor and screenwriter, born on June 2, 1972. He moved to prominence following his role as Michael Scofield in the fifth seasons of the drama series ‘Prison Break.’

Early Life

Wentworth Miller was born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England. He is the son of American parents, Roxann (née Palm) who was an individual education teacher and Wentworth E. Miller II who was a lawyer and teacher.

Miller’s father, who was a Rhodes Scholar, was studying at Oxford at the time of Miller’s birth.

In 2003, Miller stated that his father is black and his mother is white. Miller’s father is of Afro-American, Jamaican, German, and English ancestry. Whereas, his mother is of Russian, Swedish, French, Dutch, Syrian, and Lebanese descent.

His family moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn When Miller was a year old. He completed his graduation from Princeton University in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.

At Princeton, Miller performed with a cappella group the ‘Princeton Tigertones’. Miller also was a member of the Quadrangle Club and the Colonial Club.

Miller moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career in 1995. However, he also said that “he couldn’t walk away from it because he needed it like he needed air.”

Miller’s first TV role was as student-turned-sea monster Gage Petronzi on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ (“Go Fish,” 1998).

In 2002, Miller’s has his first introducing role as the sensitive, introverted David Scott in ABC’s mini-series ‘Dinotopia.’ After a few minor television roles, he moved on to work for the film ‘The Human Stain’ in 2003.

Miller portrayed the younger version of the Anthony Hopkins character, Coleman Silk. As a result, he remarkably identified as the core dilemma of the movie, which was about a black man who chooses to “pass” as white.

Miller also wrote the screenplay for the psychological thriller film ‘Stoker,’ as well as a prequel to Stoker as Uncle Charlie. He used the pseudonym Ted Foulke and later explained that “I just wanted the scripts to sink or swim on their own.”

In July 2014, Miller made his first appearance in the fourth episode of the first season in the series ‘The Flash,’ and again reprised his role on ‘Legends of Tomorrow.’ Those shows brought back together with him with his ‘Prison Break’ co-star Dominic Purcell. Purcell portrayed Mick Rory / Heat Wave. Miller left ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ as a series regular at the end of season one, but at the same time signed a contract with Warner Bros. TV to continue portraying Snart on multiple shows in the Arrowverse.

Miller penned the screenplay for the 2016 horror film ‘The Disappointments Room.’ The film was produced by Voltage Pictures and Killer Films. However, the film received negative acclaim from critics.
Miller was reportedly in negotiations to write the screenplay adaptation of the novel ‘The Story of Edgar Sawtelle’ by David Wroblewski. The film was set to be produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks.

Miller has dual British and US citizenship due to his birth in the United Kingdom to American parents.

Miller denied in an interview with InStyle magazine because he seems like gay. Later, he talked about his being gay in August 2013. The same year, Miller declined to attend the Saint Petersburg International Film Festival because he felt “deeply troubled” by the Russian government’s treatment of its gay citizens.

Miller stated that he “cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly.”

At the 2013 Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Seattle, Washington, Miller stated that he had attempted suicide multiple times as a teenager due to his gender reality and before coming out as gay. He said, “When someone asked him if that was a cry for help, I said no because I told no one. You only cry for help if you believe there’s a help to cry for.”

Miller explained his struggle in Hollywood as a gay actor. He also told how his involvement in the ManKind Project helped him know about brotherhood, sisterhood, humankind, and being part of a community.

According to Miller’s 2016 Facebook post, he revealed that he had seriously struggled with depression since his childhood. He announces it like a battle that’s cost him time, opportunities, relationships, and a thousand sleepless nights.

In 2010, Miller was poked in a meme at his weight gain. As a result, he posted an emotional post where he protected himself.

In 2016, a mental health charity called “Active Minds”, publish that Miller would be Ambassador for the organization.
