John Krasinski

John Burke Krasinski, better known as John Krasinski, was born on October 20, 1979, in a place called Brighton near Boston. John worked as a waiter and English teacher during the beginning of his adulthood, grew up to become an actor, screenwriter, producer, and director. The journey of this transformation is worth an acknowledgment.

Childhood

John was born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, in the Brighton as a third child to Mary Clare (Irish-American nurse) and Ronald Krasinski, a Polish-American internist. He, along with his two elder brothers Kevin and Paul grew older as Roman Catholics in Newton, Boston.

At the age of 10, he made his first appearance on stage in a musical drama Annie in which he played the role of Daddy Warbucks. Later, he acted in a satirical play as a co-star. However, B.J Novak, who later became a co-star with John in “The Office” has written and cast the play. 

Krasinski had taught English as a foreign language in Costa Rica before entering college. Then after, he went to Brown University and studied theatre arts under Lowry Marshall and John Emigh. He graduated in 2001 as a playwright with the thesis on the topic “Contents Under Pressure.” 

John: a former member of the sketch comedy group called ‘Out of Bounds,’ had also served as a basketball youth coach. The school was at the Gordon School in East Providence, Rhode Island. Afterward, he joined the National Theater Institute located at Waterford, Connecticut.

Career

Early Career (the 2000s) 

John completed his training at the National Theater Institute. Besides the training, he studied at the Royal Shakespeare Company located at Stratford-upon-Avon, England, and ‘The Actors Center’ in New York City as well.

Krasinski went to New York City to pursue acting soon after he graduated from Brown University. Later, he appeared in commercials and guest-starred on television shows. Furthermore, he appeared in the play ‘What the Eunuch Saw’ which has been directed and written by his former college classmates Emily O’Dell and Isaac Robert Hurwitz.

2005–2009 

Krasinski’s starts noticed when he appeared in 2004 in the NBC sitcom ‘The Office.’ However, the series is a remake of the successful British TV series. It was a mockumentary series about life at a mid-sized paper supply company. John portrayed the role of Jim Halpert, who was an intelligent and mild-behavior sales representative. Later, the part promoted to co-manager of the paper distribution company named Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Krasinski and Jenna Fischer’s character represents the central love interests of the series.

Krasinski visited Scranton to research and interview employees at actual paper companies for the preparation of his character. He had shot the footages of Scranton presented in the opening credits of the series. Almost, he appeared in every episode of the series. 

Besides, Krasinski also directed ‘Sabre’ (15th episode of the sixth season). Due to his hard work, Krasinski earned approximately US$100,000 per episode from the third season of ‘The Office’ which was four times his salary for the previous two seasons.

Krasinski co-starred in Jason Carvey’s independently produced comedy film ‘A New Wave’ in 2006. He worked along with Andrew Keegan and Lacey Chabert. In 2007, he co-starred as Brevin in Gregg Araki’s independent stoner comedy ‘Smiley Face.’ He worked together with Anna Faris and Danny Masterson.

The film received many mostly positive reviews. After that year, he appeared in the romantic comedy ‘License to Wed’ along with Mandy Moore and Robin Williams. The film received many negative critical acclaims, but it emerged as a commercial success.

Krasinski started his directorial debut in the comedy-drama film ‘Brief Interviews with Hideous Men,’ in 2009. 

Consequently, he also wrote the screenplay for the film, which was based on David Foster Wallace’s collection of short stories. However, he appeared in a minor role in the film and also worked as a producer. The film was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19, 2009.

Thus, the film nominated for the Grand Jury Prize with a lot of positive reviews. One of a Film critic A.O. Scott wrote, “though this experiment doesn’t quite succeed, there’s enough intelligence and insight in this movie to make it worth the attempt.” Another critic named Elizabeth Weitzman from New York Daily News stated that “Krasinski deserves credit for having the ambition to adapt material as difficult as David Foster Wallace’s short stories.” 

The same year, Krasinski appeared in the comedy-drama ‘Away We Go’ along with Maya Rudolph, directed by Sam Mendes. The film overall received positive acclaim from the critics.

According to a review, Michael Rechtshaffen from The Hollywood Reporter stated that “terrific performances make this tender if slight little film worth the trip.”

Krasinski acted for his 2009’s third role which was in Nancy Meyers’ romantic comedy ‘It’s Complicated.’ Also, he worked along with another cast that included Lake Bell, Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin.

The film beat the box office with tremendous success. It grossed over $219 million worldwide. For the same movie, Krasinski received the ‘National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards’ for Best Ensemble Cast.

Since 2011–2017 (Film and television work)

Krasinski co-starred along with Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Colin Egglesfield in the romantic comedy ‘Something Borrowed,’ in 2011. The film was based on Emily Giffin’s novel of the same name.

Although the film received many more negative reviews, people praised his dominant performance. However, Krasinski is considered as one of the top candidates to play the role of Steve Rogers. He portrayed the role of Captain America in the superhero film ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ in 2011.

In 2012, Krasinski then appeared along with Drew Barrymore in the drama ‘Big Miracle.’ The film attempted to cover Operation Breakthrough which was considered as the 1988 international effort to rescue gray whales from being trapped in ice near Point Barrow, Alaska.

Krasinski portrayed the role of Adam Carlson, who was a news reporter. Also, Krasinski appeared in Ry Russo-Young’s independent drama ‘Nobody Walks’ along with Olivia Thirlby and Rosemarie DeWitt. An American independent drama film ‘Nobody Walks’; premiered in Competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival which later won a Special Jury Prize.

Krasinski also appeared, co-produced and co-wrote the screenplay of the drama ‘Promised Land.’ In this drama film, he worked along with Matt Damon. The film was based on a story by Dave Eggers which released on December 28, 2012.

In 2013 February, the film won ‘Special Mention Award’ at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival.

Krasinsky gave a voice work for the documentary television series Head Games in 2012. The documentary was presented on the Discovery Channel.

Krasinski established the production company called Sunday Night production along with Allyson Seeger, in 2013. Krasinski starred in 2016 biographical war film ‘13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi’ by Michael Bay. The film was based on Mitchell Zuckoff’s 2014 book ‘13 Hours.’ 

The film defines about the six members of Annex Security Team who had fought to preserve the American diplomatic compound located in Benghazi, Libya after due to the influence of attacks by Islamic militants on September 11, 2012.

The play sold out its run before opening.

Krasinski appeared in the black and white short film ‘Past Forward’; based on the Italian luxury fashion house ‘Prada,’ and David O. Russell directed it. However, the film was premiered in September 2016 at Milan Fashion Week.

John Burke Krasinski directed and co-wrote the horror film ‘A Quiet Place,’ in 2018. Krasinski has appeared with his wife, Emily Blunt. However, Paramount Pictures released the film on April 6, 2018, which got significant critical acclaim for its work. It had an approval rating of 95%, which was based on 264 positive and negative reviews.

The critical consensus of the website stated, “A Quiet Place artfully plays on elemental fears with a ruthlessly intelligent creature feature that’s as original as it is scary – and establishes director John Krasinski as a rising talent. The film became a major box office hit and grossed over $325 million worldwide.

Krasinski produced and appeared as the title character in the American action political thriller television series ‘Jack Ryan.’ The film made him the fifth actor to represent the character after Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine from the film series.

On August 31, 2018, the film ‘Jack Ryan’ was premiered on Amazon Video. The series was renewed for a second season after four months of its premiere which got the critical and commercial success of ‘A Quiet Place.’

In 2009, John Krasinski received National Board of Review, the USA for Best Acting by an Ensemble in ‘It’s Complicated’ (2009).

The same year, he received Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series ‘The Office.’ Again the same year provided him Sundance Film Festival Award.

Personal Life

John Krasinski, the Roman Catholic religion started to date English actress Emily Blunt in November 2008. They had their engagement in August 2009. Later, on July 10, 2010, in Como, Italy, they married in a private official ceremony.

The couple has two daughters named Hazel and Violet. They were born on February 2014 and July 2016 respectively. 

Krasinski is a fan of American professional baseball team’s Boston Red Sox. Krasinski appeared in a New Era/Major League Baseball ad campaign along with Alec Baldwin in 2011. He played off the rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

Krasinski, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon organized a charity performance for Democratic Senate nominee Elizabeth Warren.
